Sports Safety Education and Awareness is something that is and will always be near and dear to my heart.  There are over 775,000 emergency room visits each year that are caused from sports related injuries.  Approximately 300,000 of those are debilitating brain injuries.  I know, because I am one of those statistics.  At the age of 16, I suffered a devastating cheerleading accident that resulted in the paralysis of my right arm.

These numbers are shocking and show us all that this unhealthy trend needs to be broken.  I am here as an advocate for the National Center for Sports Safety (NCSS).  My goal is to prevent somebody from having to endure the pain that I have. I am doing this by working hard to research the rules and regulations of sports while advocating to maintain high standards regarding safety.  I speak to students about the importance of listening to your bodies’ natural pain signals.  "No pain, no gain" no longer applies when your health is at risk.  Speaking with coaches is also a very important piece to this puzzle.  The greatest wealth in life will ALWAYS be our health.
